The corn bread is amazing.
Everything else is pretty good too. Just don't warm up your chicken wrap..it makes the lettuce wilty.

Terrific restaurant, great for take-out. The wings are the best kept secret in Vancouver. The owner is very hardworking and courteous. It's best to call ahead if you are in a hurry and pre-order for pick up, they also do deliver. Try this spot and support a local business.

AMAZING. That is all I can say. If you haven't been here yet make a point of doing so! Everything I have tried so far has been unbelievably good and I am becoming a regular there. It is honestly probably the best chicken I have ever had. It is not a franchise just a small local business with great staff. Let's do our part and help support them!

Ever since moving here to this area, its been hard to get people over for visits because of the former reputation of the neighborhood. On Thursday night we went to a pot-luck evening picnic and decided to bring chicken from the Pepper Roast as our contribution.
We have been fans of this place for a very long time and have raved about this place numerous times.
One thing that I certainly didnt expect was that this place would bring even hard core anti-east enders to the area.
No kidding. People at the potluck loved the chicken from this place so much that over the course of the next three days we were made aware that they had no hesitation venturing into the deep dark eastside from as far away as Kitsilano and West Vancouver to pick up their own.
This place really deserves the good comments found here. They run a really good business and make great food.

This is definatly the best place that this area has to offer.
Unique, fresh and no doubt clean.
Koodos to the owners and staff for a job well done.

I had never heard of this franchise before.
Very surprised at their choice of location but it seems to be working very well.

Had the $3.95 lunch special (Roasted Leg and thigh with a mound of potatoes) with the pop. Very skeptical at first. What on earth are you going to get for 3.95????????????

Actually it's allot and one of the best deals Ive seen offered by a franchise in years.

Hope to see more of these in Vancouver.

we can't help miss the Pepper Roast truck drive by, or the guys standing on the street corner with the signboards, or the flyers in the mail

so, it's inevitable that you're reminded to stop in.

so we do.

Good job on the sandwiches.
A little too much Lemon on the Lemon-Herb Potatoes.
Potato salad - - great.
Roasted Chicken -- excellent.
Lasagna -- well worth the $6.00

Suggestion -- Chicken hot-dogs should not have hot bell peppers on them - or at least offer them without, and too bad they added the fried potato wedges to the menu. ( I always liked the idea of bringing the kids there and not having anything deep fried as an option.

Overall, a nice change to such a drab area.

The Restaurant isn't that good, don't know where these people ate but I wasn't impressed, it was bland and quite frankly unmemorable.

I was thrilled to find out that nothing was fried! The Over-fried chicken is actually baked and is my new addiction. Its a great alternative to fast - fried and the healthy options of a greek salad or ceasar are better than fries anyday.

Great little spot and hopefully we

OK... so I hated the pulled chicken sandwich.
My husband though acts like he's addicted to it.
No doublt i'm more partial to their chicken lasagna.

I am really happy we have something like this in our little communit.
Good job.

This is a little diamond in the ruff.
I didn't expect to find this on Powell Street.
Someone should think about franchising.

2009-02-26 10:37:48

The pulled chicken sandwich is the best

2009-02-26 10:37:48

my family and I stopped in at the pepper roast and we think they have the best chicken in town. nothing deep fried all healthy good food!

The Pepper Roast is one of those little hidden gems that define and create certain neighbourhoods. It's not in a location that you would expect, and most people pass it by on their way into or out of the downtown core. They have excellent options avaliable for both take away (for the dinner you forgot to prepare) or for sitting down and enjoying the game at the Restaurant. You must stop in and try a pulled chicken sandwich, you'll become addicted to them and crave them!

2009-02-25 08:09:48

Not only does the chicken taste great they have salads, pastas and a chicken lasagna that's out of this world.

STOPPED IN FOR LUNCH ON MY WAY HOME FROM A MEETING. THE OVEN FRIED CHICKEN WAS TO DIE FOR AND IM NOT A FRIED CHICKEN FAN. THE ATMOSPHERE IS VERY WELCOMING AND THE STAFF VERY COURTEOUS. WILL DEFINITELY GO BACK AGAIN.

This is one of those places that you see often - and say ... i'll go in next time.

Well, after three months I finally stopped in last night.

Pleasantly surprised. Good food and a good deal.

I liked the oven fried chicken. nice change from the usual deep fried stuff.
My Husband is still savouring his last bit of corn bread that was left over.

only downer ( they need to get a liquor license.
